I'm a secular woman from Tel Aviv and I don't understand why Neri Livneh chose to focus her spotlight on the former yeshiva student Yaron Yadan (HaAretz supplement, February 2). After many years of warming himself in the lap of the Charedi community -- learning in its institutions, being supported by donations and grants, etc. -- Yadan suddenly discovered the "light." He entered that society of his own free will and knowingly accepted the lifestyle practiced there. When he decided to leave no one stopped him; all the gates were open.
It's not clear why, if so, he spits into the well from which he drank, why he's gone to war against them. Is it not their right to live and educate their children in accord with their beliefs? I agree to a war against religious coercion, but not to a war against religious faith.
