The Daat Emet chairman was arrested and detained for 16 hours
The Daat Emet chairman was arrested and detained for 16 hours (overnight) and restrained hand and foot (degradation and insult) after having been invited by residents of the Romema neighborhood of Haifa to speak at the local synagogue on July 16, 2007. Breslov Chassidim who forced their way in interrupted the speech and the police (as is their wont) arrested the law-abiding and allowed the law-breakers to run free. The Breslov Chassidim began to sing, accompanied by whistles, drumming on tables, and the recitation of Rav Nachman of Bvreslov's "General remedy for spiritual correction." They went wild, ran amok, and sang "It is a great good deed to hate you." Our best wishes to the residents of Romema, who may be called the pioneers of the true cultural war.

Daat Emet has been fined 1320 NIS by the Netanya municipality
Daat Emet has been fined 1320 NIS by the Netanya municipality for pasting two bumper stickers on public property. It goes without saying that Daat Emet does not paste stickers on public signs or lamp posts (as the religious do); it would seem that this is a provocation on the part of religious Netanya residents. The case is set to be heard on February 18, 2007 at 8:30 am. (For some reason, the case was postponed to May 6, 2007 at 8:30 am.) Anyone -- anywhere in the country, and particularly in Netanya -- who see stickers of religious organizations pasted on public property in violation of the law should photograph the offense and complain to the municipality. Send us the municipality's response. Anyone interested in reading the Netanya municipality's response can read the Hebrew article in the HaShavua B'Netanya newspaper.
